Handog Gamit Program

Realizing that there are still children who became school drop outs or absentees due to lack of money to buy their school supplies, the Foundation commits to provide them with the basic supplies at the start of the school year. Initially, the recipients are pupils from Pattao Elementary School in Buguey, Cagayan, the home province of ATSFI Chairman and its nearby barangays.

The Foundation distributes school supplies (based on Department of Education requirement per Grade level) in school bags with umbrellas. Teachers of the selected schools identified the most qualified elementary pupils in all levels as the beneficiaries. This is done once a year during the first two weeks of classes. Starting 2016, beneficiaries of Sagip Malnutrisyon are also the beneficiaries of the Handog Gamit. This is to provide a realistic approach in helping these pupils to complete their elementary level.

Sagip Malnutrisyon Program

There is no question that hunger stalks the households in the country. The impact of food insufficiency falls hardest on children, particularly 12 ages group and below. It explains the lack of energy seen in schoolchildren, their absence from schools, their stunted growth and diminished mental capacity. Thus, APTSFI gives birth to another program called Sagip Malnutrisyon Program (SMP).

SMP provides proper nutrition and health care through supplemental feeding for the target malnourished pupils of identified schools in the country for ten (10) consecutive months during the school year for 3 years in coordination with the parish, community, and school.

The Foundation provides fund for the meal and vitamins while the parish and school-based coordinators implement the feeding program. The parish coordinators signed by the parish priests submit the Monthly Financial Monitoring while the school based coordinators provide the Monthly Performance Evaluation Reports.

Whether their poverty is from no fault of their families or whatever reason is immaterial. The fact is there are hungry children who must be saved from malnutrition, by giving them food for their physical and mental nourishment to help them go through the completion of their education.

Responsible & Effective Parenting Seminar

To support the Sagip Malnutrisyon Program, APTSFI created another program the Handog Gabay (Responsible and Effective Parenting Seminar). Despite the notion that school feeding programs done on the ground are expensive and require dole outs, these feeding programs have their virtues aside from addressing hunger quickly and directly. The Foundation believes that to promote a sustainable nutrition program and healthy eating practices, parents, teachers, and the community must be equipped with proper health and nutrition practices and the ability to ensure food availability.

In SMP, parents are voluntarily assisted on school feeding program in collaboration with the school’s principal, teachers and staff as they learn about healthy cooking and ingredients selection. Thus, it also promotes more collaboration, community-orientation and environment friendliness.

While SMP is a collaborative effort, it is the parents that play a big role on attaining every child’s full potential. As such, the Foundation provides an annual 2-day Responsible and Effective Parenting Seminar (REPS) for the parents of SMP beneficiaries. REPS covers topics on personal development, basic child rights, child development, parenting styles, family empowerment, and good food and nutrition among others.

Parents of College scholars are also provided with REPS to make these parents understand their responsibilities in taking care of their children based on their four needs: survival, development, protection and participation. The main goal is to encourage the parents to fully support their children to finish their college education.

Mass Wedding

The Foundation found out that the problem of staff and workers of most companies are rooted back at home that can cause mediocrity at work.

To help solve this issue, the Foundation recoups the sacredness of marriage by initiating an annual Catholic Church Mass Wedding for any destitute workers, staff and/or employees – which they started from within the DDT Group of Companies.

The Catholic employees are either civilly married or have been living together without receiving the sacrament of marriage mainly due to financial constraints. This mass wedding is done in coordination with the parish. The qualified couples have to undergo Pre-Marriage Counseling and canonical interview by the duly assigned priests before the actual mass wedding day. Church and reception arrangements and program are being handled by the Foundation and funded by DDTKI.

The first blessed ceremony was held in 2013 with 34 couples only. But every year, the ceremonials keep growing larger in scale because more and more couples have been participating.

Aside from redeeming the sacredness of marriage through the mass wedding, a well-grounded faith is another solution of the Foundation. APTSFI provides couples with continuous Spiritual Formation, Marriage Enrichment and other seminars and activities. The Foundation also formed a group of single and/or wedded male workers of the DDT Group of Companies or the King’s Men to give Basic Faith Formation seminar every Saturday and Monthly Prayer Assembly and other activities along with the couples, to lead them to an improved way of living inside and outside work.

This is done in partnership with the Catholics for Family and Life, a Catholic community.

Blood is vital, and it is why Andres P. Tamayo Sr. Foundation, Inc. gives importance to Handog Dugo program in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, a pioneer in this field in the country.

APTSFI provides the food for the donors while the Philippine Red Cross takes charge of the Medical Team with the required bloodletting paraphernalia and processes. All donors are well-assisted by the Foundation from start to finish of the procedures. Successful donors are granted health discount card which they and their families can use in any hospitals. Plus, they are accredited to receive blood anytime they need for themselves and/or their families.

The Foundation establishes the Referral System to Philippine Red Cross when need arises for blood from the parish/partner agencies and project coordinators. Priority recipients of this program are any indigent people in need of blood. Recipients can assure that every blood donation bag is safe. It is thoroughly screened, tested and approved by the Philippine Red Cross team before it even reached them.

*In cases where donors are headed straight to hospitals for blood extraction which do not honor blood donations from the Philippine Red Cross, the Foundation facilitates this as well.
